THE IDEA for this website originated as a scribble on a map I was drawing in Tunis in summer 1996. My tools of the trade at the time were Cumberland pencils and Ozalid reprographic paper. Possibly it was the heady combination of ammonia solution and snowpake that persuaded me it would be amusing to use Leopoldo as the launch vehicle by which to rocket into cyberspace. In the intervening seven years the ascent of the Leopoldo omnibus has been less than meteoric. I think we've probably lost first-mover advantage, at least in the Tippex trade. However in keeping with my new paradigm for the twenty-first century, that there'll-always-be-another-one-along-in-a-minute, I present Leopoldo without apology. If you like it - great! If not, that's fine too. If you're moved to write, please do. Leo is out polishing his respondents skills as we speak. |

SINCE I wrote the above bold words, all hell has broken out in the not-so-new millennium. The global economy has imploded and the stock market has gone through the floor. The internet revolution revolves no more and the vision of unstoppable expansion has been stopped in its tracks. Temporarily. And my perception of where this website's going has also changed. My design criteria are inspired by Adaptation out of Being John Malkovich. The intended strategy is to project a view of the outside world in an interesting way. Bit like a telescope, rather geophysical, very subjective. The objects of my attention are assorted images, chosen pretty much at random, hopefully engaging. I'm trying to condition and retrieve images fast, in such a way that you don't hang around for hours to load them. You could say this represents a worthwhile development, an interesting prototype, a platform for presenting new ideas. You could say it's a complete waste of time. See what you think! |
